A core function of ScanImage is to generate a pair of command signals, one per lateral dimension, used to control physical scanners (typically an X/Y mirror pair) used for laser scanning microscopy. A substantial number of the state variables comprising the ScanImage Configuration consist of parameters affecting the command signals generated. Additional Configuration state variables affect optional command signals used to control one or more Pockels Cells (or other light modulators) during the laser scan.
